Terminology

A great resource for finding the meaning of common tennis terms can be found on Wikipedia. In addition, we have also defined a few terms below that are used here on TennisTent.com.

Completed Match - A match where a winner can be determined, either by score or forfeiture.

Match Affiliation - A designation that can be given to a match you record in your account. The designation can be the name of an organization to which the match is associated, or any other designation you wish. The information will show in both your match details and as part of your match statistics.

Match Order - A number applied to a matches played on the same day to specify the order in which those matches were played.

Match Series Name - A name by which you can refer to a common match-up. This information can be used to track friendly, recurring matches, or official tournaments.

NTRP - An acronym for National Tennis Rating Program. It is a common measure for the skill level of a tennis player. The ratings span from 1.0 (a beginner) to 7.0 (a world-class-player).

Partial Match - A match where a winner can be determined or that can end in a tie. Useful for tracking matches even those not finished.
